Sculptra is a biocompatible

and biodegradable injectable

material known as

poly-L-lactic acid (PLA) that

naturally stimulates the skins

cells to produce its own

collagen.

While traditional dermal fillers

only address wrinkles, lines

and folds; Sculptra works

differently in replenishing lost

volume by stimulating growth

of your own collagen to treat

the underlyingcause of facial

ageing and giving a more youthful appearance.

Sculptra works to replace lost collagen in a series of treatments administered by a Sculptra Aesthetic trained clinician. On average, 3 injection sessions are needed over a period of a few months, to produce noticeable results that emerge subtly and can last more than 2 years.

Treatment considerations for Sculptra Aesthetic:

  •    Sculptra Aesthetic is not for use in the lips.

  •    Sculptra Aesthetic is not recommended for use in the periorbital area (eye area).

  •    Safety and effectiveness of Sculptra Aesthetic have not been evaluated in areas other than the nasolabial wrinkles and folds in clinical trials.

Sculptra® FAQs

The following questions include many of those asked by patients who are considering Sculptra® treatment. For answers of any further questions you have, please book a consultation.

What is Sculptra® made of?

Sculptra® is synthetic and not derived from animal or human sources (such as cadaver material). The main ingredient of Sculptra® is poly-L-lactic acid (PLA), a substance that has been used for more than 30 years for medical applications such as absorbable sutures, in bone screws and plates, and as a medium for administering medication. PLA is made from lactic acid, a natural substance that is necessary for cellular metabolism. Lactic acid is already present in the human body.

Is Sculptra® treatment painful?

Sulptra is mixed with an anaesthetic called lidocaine.  You will also have numbing cream and ice applied so the procedure is very comfortable.

How is Sculptra® different from other injectables?

  •    It is mixed 48-72 hours before the treatment therefore a non refundable deposit of £100 per vial is required at time of booking.

  •    Its effects last for up to two years; the results of most other injectables last for a few months.

  •    Sculptra® is synthetic - not derived from human, animal, or plant sources.

  •    Sculptra® is completely biocompatible (it won't harm the body).

  •    Sculptra® is injected under the skin, rather than into the skin.

  •    Sculptra® is not placed in a "spot" injection; it is used in a pattern to evenly fill out the face in the problem area. The treated        area is massaged to evenly distribute the Sculptra® for 7 days.

  •    Sculptra® is supplied as a powder of microcrystals that are mixed with sterile water, unlike other fillers that are supplied in gel    form.

  •    The effects of Sculptra® are not immediate; the results take weeks or months to become fully apparent.

  •  Approximately 9ml of product is used per one vial of sculptra.

Sculptra® is FDA- approved in the United States for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated lipodystrophy (fat loss). Sculptra® treatment for cosmetic purposes is considered "off-label" use.

Where can I have Sculptra Injected?

Sculptra can be injected in many areas of the body. There are claims that this is how a famous celebrity achieves that large bottom! At present Andrea can inject in the areas shown in purple on the picture here:

When will I see results?

The true results of Sculptra® treatment take weeks or months to fully manifest themselves.

A period of six to eight weeks is a good estimate of how long the effects of Sculptra®

treatment take to become apparent.

Is there downtime following Sculptra® treatment?

Sculptra® treatment involves minimal downtime. Patients are generally able to resume their normal daily activities as soon as their treatment is complete, though some choose to wait for any swelling or redness to fade. You should massage the treatment areas for a minimum of 5 minutes, twice a day for 7 days for best results.

How long will Sculptra® results last? How Many Vials Will I Need?

Sculptra® results are very long-lasting - up to two years or more - compared to the 6-18 months' duration of the effects of other fillers.  Depending upon the amount of collagen lost which needs replacing and how well your body adjusts to producing collagen will depend on how many vials you may need. As a rough guess you may need 4 vials usually over 3-4 months.

What are the side effects of Sculptra?

As with any procedure using needles, there are many expected side effects that do not need reporting to the clinic: Bruising, tenderness, redness.  There are other side effects that would require you to contact the clinic: infection, this would feel hot, tender, there may even be pus, you may have a fever. You would need to contact the clinic within opening hours should you be concerned about acquiring an infection.  If massage isn't performed adequately you may feel small nodules under the skin. these are usually not visible and don't require treatment.
